Which tote bag material should you choose?
The fabric decides how long the bag lives, and that decides how long your logo gets seen. Here is how the main types in our range compare, using the specifications on each product page.

| Canvas | Canvas Bag (100% Cotton) | 10 oz cotton, 38 x 40 x 9 cm, natural, black or navy | Premium gifts and retail |
| Jute | Jute Boutique Bag With Gusset | Hessian jute, 40 x 32 x 12 cm, cotton handles | Natural look, bulkier loads |
| Recycled cotton | Zoco Recycled Cotton Bag | 65% recycled post-consumer cotton, 35% cotton, 140 gsm, 38 x 42 cm, 8 colours | Sustainability-led campaigns |
| Polyester | Capella Tote Bag - Full Colour | 600D polyester, 19 L, zip closure, 10 colours | Full-colour artwork |
| Foldable nylon | Melbourne Foldable Bag With Gusset | 190T nylon, folds to pocket size | Handbag or glovebox stash |
GSM means grams per square metre, so a higher number is a heavier, sturdier fabric. For most buyers we'd start with a 140 gsm calico bag for a big handout and step up to the 280 gsm Eco Event Bag when you want the bag to stay in use for years. If you only need plain natural cotton shoppers, our calico bags page shows the whole calico range in one place.
Tote bag or tote-backpack?
The Kånken Totepack converts from a shoulder bag to a backpack and has a padded sleeve for a 13 inch laptop, so it suits gifts to staff who commute. If the recipient is more likely to want a pack with straps only, browse our promotional backpacks.
How do you brand a tote bag?
- Screen print is our usual recommendation for calico, canvas and jute. It gives solid, hard-wearing colour and the unit cost falls as the quantity rises, though each colour adds a setup. See our screen printing service.
- Transfers and DTF suit multi-colour logos and smaller runs, because they carry fine detail without a setup for every colour. Our DTF transfers page explains the finish.
- Embroidery is listed on the canvas bag and gives a raised, premium logo. Fine detail and small text are limited, and the logo has to be digitised first.
- Full-colour print is what the Capella is made for: edge-to-edge on both sides.
For a single-colour logo on calico or canvas, screen print is the one we'd pick, because it lasts as long as the bag and costs the least per bag at volume. The canvas bag lists a 25 x 25 cm decoration area, and for other totes we size the logo to the print area of the bag. Your free digital proof shows the size and position before anything is made.
Ordering tote bags
There is no minimum order, so a small team can order twenty bags as easily as a conference can order two thousand. You'll get a free digital proof showing colours, logo size and position, and nothing goes to production until you approve it. Some stocked orders can be ready the same day, while items made to order overseas take longer, and your quote confirms the timing. Freight is quoted separately, and the unit price drops as quantity rises.
Who buys promotional tote bags?
- Events, expos and trade shows. A tote carries the other things handed out at the event, so your logo moves around the venue all day and goes home with the attendee. Our conference bags are the usual starting point for delegate packs.
- Staff onboarding and merch packs. A tote holds the tee, bottle and notebook in a new-starter pack, and we can assemble the lot through our kitting service.
- Retail, markets and charities. A jute or canvas bag at the checkout gets reused for shopping for months, so the logo is seen by everyone in the queue behind the buyer.

If you need something lighter to hand out, our drawstring bags are a common alternative to a tote. For retail or gift counters, paper bags sit well alongside a tote, and our beach bags cover summer campaigns.
