Which type of gift bag should you choose?
The material decides how the bag looks in the hand and how much of it you can print, so start there. The table covers the main types in the range.
| Type | Made from | Branding | Suits |
| Laminated paper carry bags (small to extra large) | Gloss laminated 157gsm art paper with woven polypropylene rope handles | Edge-to-edge spot or full colour on all sides, including the base | Client gifts, launches and events where the bag is part of the message |
| Ribbon handle paper bags (small to extra large, plus wine and champagne sizes) | 180gsm paper with satin weave ribbon handles and a reinforced gusset and top edge; white, natural, navy or black | Digital print, with a softer colour result on uncoated paper | Gifts that should feel considered |
| Die cut paper bags (medium and large, landscape or portrait) | 180gsm paper, with handles and gusset reinforced with 600gsm card | Print on the bag face | Conference and expo handouts that carry some weight |
| Satin gift bags (small, medium, large) | Satin with a white or black drawstring; the large is 375 x 300 mm | Spot colour or full colour | Small, high-value gifts |
| Cotton bottle gift bag | 120gsm cotton drawstring bag, 280 mm long, sized for a standard bottle | Quoted from your artwork | A single bottle |
If you only want one answer, most buyers are best served by a laminated paper carry bag in full colour. It prints right to the edges and base, so the bag looks designed rather than stamped, and the rope handles carry a boxed gift without complaint. We'd move to a ribbon handle bag when the gift is the star and a single-colour logo will do.
How are custom gift bags printed?
On paper, digital print is the usual method because it handles full colour, photos and gradients. Uncoated paper absorbs ink, so colours come out more subdued than on a gloss laminated bag, and a Pantone reference helps our artwork team set expectations on the proof. Satin bags are listed for spot or full colour printing, and the artwork team confirms the method for the bag you choose.
The logo goes on the front panel for most buyers, with a second position on the back or a message on the gusset if you want one. Each extra position adds setup, so one well-placed logo is the cheapest route, and it usually looks better. Send vector artwork (AI, EPS, SVG or vector PDF) where you can, or a 300 dpi PNG or JPG for full-colour print. If all you have is a logo from your website, our artwork team can redraw it.
Gift bags for wine and bottles
Bottle gifts have their own bags: a laminated paper wine bag, wine and champagne ribbon handle bags, and the cotton bottle gift bag. Branded wine bags pair well with wine hamper sets when you want the whole gift presented together, and with wine carriers for a bag that gets reused.
Who buys promotional gift bags?
- Client thank-yous at Christmas. A branded bag is the first thing a client sees and often stays on the office floor or in the cupboard for weeks, so it earns more attention than the card inside. Production slots fill from September, so book early.
- Conferences and expos. Attendees carry the bag around the venue and to the car park, so your logo travels past everyone else's stands. A paper bag suits a day, while a tote bag gets reused.
- Staff and new starters. A welcome gift in a branded bag works well with our kitting service, which packs items together for you.
Gift bag alternatives
If the bag will be reused for months, an drawstring bag or a calico bag will outlast paper. If you'd rather present the gift ready-packed, look at our custom gift box sets. The grid above also includes flat pack magnetic boxes and a clear presentation tube for gifts that suit a box better than a bag.
Ordering gift bags
There's no minimum, so you can order twenty bags for a client list as readily as two thousand for an event. We send a free digital proof showing the bag, colours, logo size and position, and nothing goes into production until you approve it. Several of the bags here are made overseas and show a production lead time on the product page, so allow more time than for a stocked item and book early for Christmas. Many products show quantity pricing on the page, and your quote confirms the branded price and freight.
